To quote the bachelorette, “Chiang Mai is awesome and amazing.” Yes, Tony and I watch that awesome and amazing show (please don’t tell Kip).
Seriously, Chiang Mai is pretty awesome. Our hotel is in the center of the old town and the weekly “Walking Street” (huge outdoor market) is right out front.
What is really nice about Thailand aside from the beautiful scenery and the extremely friendly people are the five star hotels for two star prices. We are staying at Tamarind Village. Their sister hotel Rayavadee at Railay Beach was truly awesome and amazing (although it had five star prices). It will definitely be on our list of places to go back to. Ralphie said hiking to the lagoon at Railay Beach was one of the most awesome and amazing experiences of his life. We didn’t go on that hike because it involved ropes and hoisting one’s body weight.
Koh Phi Phi did not have as beautiful scenery as Railay Beach, but the water there was crystal clear and the perfect temperature. I don’t think I have ever had an experience so relaxing as floating in the ocean at Koh Phi Phi. It was the closest I’ve come to “a blank page” moment thus far – the sea and the sky and my middle aged bathing suit clad body, a single peaceful entity.
Back to Chaing Mai – today is the big bungee jump. The boys have decided to forgo jumping in tailor made suits (although they are still planning to get them – must be a frontal lobe thing) because Ralphie just wants to get the jump over with.
